This small community wood has been recently planted on a site formerly used for sand and gravel extraction. It was bought by Tatenhill and Rangemore Parish Council in 2013, with support from the Forestry Commission. When the council asked for naming suggestions, the newsworthy pregnancy of HRH Duchess of Cambridge at the time led to the resulting Prince’s Community Wood title, now in honour of Prince George, third in line of succession to the British throne. Planting of 10,000 trees was completed in 2014, with trails crossing the site as mown paths, linking up with the nearby National Forest Way.
