Bradgate Park

A visit to Bradgate Park feels like you are stepping out of the modern world and into a landscape that began 560 million years ago with 500-year-old oak trees, fine herds of deer, ancient rocks and ruins. Whether you are wanting to explore its history, geology, wildlife or beauty, there is so much to discover.  

Bradgate Park was first enclosed as a deer park around 800 years ago and it now provides 335 hectares of publicly accessible countryside close to Leicester. The River Lin, Leicestershire’s shortest river, winds through the southern side of the park with tumbling waterfalls and pools. From there, you can cross acres of untouched nature with several trails leading north across the park and up to the Old John Tower with breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside. 

A series of guided walks throughout the year, for example the woodland and veteran trees walk, will take you on a journey of discovery through different areas of the park. If you would like to learn more about traditional crafts or try painting surrounded by nature, the programme of traditional craft workshops will introduce you to new skills. 

Start your visit at the fascinating information centre and finish the day at the Deer Barn café for a quick snack or more substantial hot meal.  

A visit to Bradgate park is an opportunity to enjoy history and nature. Take a gentle stroll along the River Lin, or an energetic hike across the park up to Old John’s Tower.
